Shutting-Up Shop.

Shutting-Up Shop.

Okay, imagine that you have just opened up a small shop in a busy market town. The early days of a new business are never easy and many people think that it takes around three years of hard work before you are properly established. You will need to put in long hours and lots of hard work… if you have a brain, that is.

Why the hell is it that so many small shops close on a certain day each week????? Sometimes they only open in the morning on that day and close up in the afternoon. They call this ‘half-day closing’. I prefer to think of it as ‘half-assed thinking’.

Surely to God, when you have a shop, you want it to be open as much possible. The economy is not exactly in a good way at the moment so I would have thought that it was doubly important…

The other dumb thing about businesses is what builder’s merchants do. Many of them close either early or completely on a Saturday. DOH! This is totally ridiculous thinking. Most people are at work during the week and when they finally get a chance to do anything in the garden or around the house they want supplies… Whoever came up with this ‘brainwave’ wants a good spank.

Perhaps it is all down to ‘tradition’. Because there has always been ‘half-day closing’ people think that it must continue. I am not big on tradition myself. It was once traditional to shove kids up chimneys to clean them and tradition still tells some people to dress up as pompous idiots and chase small animals around the countryside on horseback… Indeed, tradition can be both dumb and dangerous.

Oh well, I’ll just have to make sure that I never go into business. I have been cursed with a logical and hardworking attitude that would get me nowhere.
